Dog Pregnancy Calculator
Estimate a central due date and a model window using a veterinarian-confirmed ovulation date or LH peak. A mating date alone gives a much less reliable planning reference.

Pregnancy / due-date planner
Use a date confirmed by your veterinary team when possible. Mating and ovulation are different dates; they do not give equally reliable estimates.

Dog due-date calculator: choose the right starting date
The most important input is what the date represents. A mating date is an observed event. A veterinarian-confirmed ovulation date or LH peak comes from reproductive monitoring. They cannot be substituted for one another without changing the meaning of the result.
| Reference | Central date | Model window |
|---|---|---|
| LH peak | +65 days | +64–66 days (Merck) |
| Confirmed ovulation | +63 days | +61–64 days (derived) |
| Mating only | +63 days, illustrative | Not predicted |
The derived ovulation window is arithmetic on published intervals, not a new clinical study or a confidence interval. Your veterinarian's monitoring can provide a more useful interpretation for your dog.
Pregnancy planning goes beyond a calendar
Arrange veterinary confirmation and a monitoring plan. Ask when imaging is appropriate, how nutritional needs may change, and which local clinic can provide urgent care during labor.
Keep the breeding history, test dates, relevant examination results and your clinic's contact information together. This tool stores none of them and cannot monitor the pregnancy as time passes.
Do not use a calculated date to decide when to give medication, attempt a delivery intervention or delay care. If your dog appears ill or distressed, call your veterinary team promptly.
Dog Pregnancy Calculator FAQ
How long are dogs pregnant?
Merck states that birth occurs 64–66 days after the LH peak and that ovulation occurs 2–3 days after that peak. This page uses a central estimate of 63 days after ovulation, with a derived 61–64 day model window.
Why is the mating-date option less reliable?
Mating does not identify the day of ovulation. Merck notes that fresh canine sperm can survive for 9+ days and breeding dates correlate poorly with whelping dates. The tool's mating-date plus 63 days is only an illustration, with no predicted birth window.
Can this calculator confirm that my dog is pregnant?
No. Pregnancy must be assessed by your veterinarian. VCA describes ultrasound, relaxin testing and other methods, each with timing and interpretation limits. A date calculation cannot detect pregnancy or determine puppy viability.
Can I schedule a cesarean using these dates?
No. A cesarean or induction decision needs veterinary assessment, appropriate testing and monitoring. A calculated date or window is not a procedure schedule.
Does a date outside the window mean something is wrong?
Not by itself. Date accuracy and individual circumstances matter, and the tool cannot assess labor. Contact your veterinary team for concerns; illness, distress or abnormal labor warrants prompt attention regardless of the date.

Veterinary diagnostic methods and the limits of pregnancy testing; not a source for the illustrative mating-date offset.
